Twittering California Pottery
Over the past year, we’ve worked mostly on the infrastructure of the Potteries of California website to make it a useful reference for collectors. We haven’t really paid too much attention to publicizing the site. But we’d like to start getting into the whole “social” aspect of things since this is meant to be a community. (We might also think about adding a forum some day if it’s warranted.)
We actually had a Potteries of California Twitter account from over a year ago. The thing was, at the time, not too many people knew about Twitter. I recall doing a search for “pottery” and having almost NO related accounts show up!
Fast forward a year, and Twitter is all the rage. So we decided to get back into using it. If you’re a collector, potter, manufacturer, company, Etsy person, Ebay seller or just a fan of vintage things, please follow us on Twitter! We’ll generally follow you back (unless you happen to be a spamtwitterer).
While we’re on the subject of social networks, feel free to join the Potteries of California Flickr group. We and the other members post up pictures of California pottery on a regular basis. If you have an identification question, this is the best way to go about it because you’ll have the combined knowledge of many people instead of just us.
Lastly, if you would like to stay connected to the news, finds and commentary posted on Potteries of California, you can do that easily by subscribing to our RSS Feed. If you’ve never heard of RSS Feeds before, they are a really convenient way to keep up with your favorite blogs and websites - you get the titles and summaries of any posts sent to your RSS reader every day. A really easy reader that you can try out is Google Reader.
There are also a couple other fun features that we’re thinking of implementing on the site. I don’t want to say too much about them right now, however, in case it doesn’t pan out. But one thing we wanted to do is start doing for sure is interviews with other pottery related sites and companies. Look for those to appear in the coming months.
