Sims - Potteries of California

I’ve come across this curious pottery a few times, but this is the first time I’ve seen items that had a stamp that had the location included. Apparently, Sims Ceramics was at one time located in Apple Valley which is north of the San Bernadino Mountains (and Big Bear) and just east of Victorville. Usually, I’ve seen Snack sets from Sims - this is the first time I’ve seen salt and pepper shakers and small dishes. The pattern is interesting too, a goldleaf and black rooster decorative motif. Other than the company location, I haven’t been able to figure out much about the company.

Interesting, the rooster design looks very Sascha Brastoff-like.

  2. Bryan Says:

That’s what I was thinking at first too. When you look at it close up, it doesn’t have the same fluidity or something - but the colors and the general idea seem like something he would’ve done.
