Russel Wright by Bauer Pottery!

Wright by Bauer - Potteries of CaliforniaSome pretty exciting news - well, it is for me at least. The Bauer Pottery Company of Los Angeles is going to reintroduce Russel Wright’s American Modern™ line of dinnerware. This was a hugely influential and popular dinnerware pattern in the 1930s-1940s and represented one of America’s first shifts toward modern design in everyday items.

Russel Wright actually did do some design for Bauer earlier in the 1940s - but his contribution was a visionary “modern artware line” - twenty unwieldy, yet beautiful objects that were just too far ahead of their time. The line failed - but if you’re lucky enough to have one today, it commands a huge premium among collectible Bauer. I’ve only ever seen pictures in books of this Bauer Russel Wright line…

Anyhow, Bauer is going to start off with just a thirteen piece lineup of American Modern, with dishes, bowls, platters, a tea set and mugs in various colors that should match the originals. I’m really looking forward to seeing how they look.

Also, don’t forget there is going to be a Holiday Sale over on the Bauer website. But I’m actually going to try make it to their “seconds” sale which is going to take place during two weekends in December at the remodeled showroom in Los Angeles.
