Roselane Birdies

Coming back from out recent trip to Joshua Tree, we came across these two lovely Roselane doves. We’d been looking for Roselane animals for awhile now - they always seem to refuse to come home with us due to the higher prices they can command. This time, they were on sale for $5 for the pair so they did come home to roost.
Many of the animals that Roselane made have plastic eyes. Originally, they had made a number of extremely modern looking animal ceramic sculptures on walnut bases - unfortunately, they were a little ahead of their time and the public was not enamored. To salvage the line, they glued plastic eye pieces and finished/painted them to look a little more naturalistic. These two doves are from the same mold - but they are finished in a different manner. The more colorful one in the foreground has added stamped detail on the neck and wing. It is also airbrushed so that the neck looks pink.
We’ve also seen the pure white ceramic equivalent of this dove on a walnut base in Chipman’s book. There are a number of other Roselane items we’ve been meaning to post as well (also, note the deer in the post immediately before this one - we think this may be a Roselane piece, but it has some differences). Look for more Roselane in the next few months on the blog.

Does anyone know if William “Doc” Fields of Roselane Pottery, ever worked with someone from Hall China to create Birds or other animals? These pieces are marked Halfield of California. I don’t have any infomation of when these two collaborated. Please send any info you may have. Thank You!
