I occasionally come across pieces of pottery and ceramics that I think are California pottery but turn out to be decisively NOT. Hmm… let me correct myself. It actually happens FREQUENTLY, not occasionally. Well, it’s been happening a lot less as I learn more about the products from different non-California potteries. I’m trying to educate myself.

I got this mug very early on when I was learning about pottery, and I originally thought it might be something produced by Marc Bellaire or Sascha Brastoff. It turns out it’s Laurentian Art Ware - Laurentian Pottery is actually a Canadian company. The design completely fooled me because the squiggles sure looks like some sort of modern 50s-60s dinnerware from California. In any case, it took me quite awhile before I was able to decipher the backstamp on the mug. It actually took a few years before I realized what it was, LOL. Well, in the meantime, I’d been enjoying it on the shelf and it fits pretty well next to similar period pieces from other Calif companies.
