I’ve heard of Guppy before, but I hadn’t come across any examples until recently when I was at a church sale. I saw these square Western Way salad plates and immediately recognized them from the drip glaze, color and shape. Since we have little room to spare for more heavy plates like these, I was going to merely take a photo and be on my way. However, I felt a little bad with the little old ladies hovering overhead telling me all about the person who had donated them to the church. So I ended up picking up the five plates for eight dollars.

The glaze is actually pretty spectacular on these plates - it’s been allowed to drip down quite a bit on the back. Guppy’s specialized in these island themed dinnerware sets. Interestingly, the little ridges at the corners of these square plates allow them to stack quite nicely.
