California Pottery on A La Modern

Moreno Ceramics - Potteries of California

I’m not too sure how many people actually follow the Potteries of California blog. I know we do get a good number of people coming in from searches for pottery from the various California companies. But I’m not sure how many people actually read the posts. In any case, as we said in an earlier post we’ve going to start selling California Pottery in our own store called A La Modern. I think it will still dovetail in nicely with talking about the various companies, and we encourage you to sign up for the RSS for that blog as well.

Most of the California pottery sold on that site will be from the 1950-1980 era, what might be considered a mostly “modern” style. However, we’ll still have older (and newer) pottery up for sale on that site, as well as non-California items. Quite a few people have contacted me in the past to ask if a certain item we talked about here on the site was for sale. Up until now, I’ve had to tell them “Sorry”. That’s no longer the case, and if you happen to be interested in any of the items you see talked about here on Potteries of California, let us know. We can’t guarantee they’ll be for sale, though there’s no harm in asking.

You may start to see photos on this website with an “A La Modern” watermark instead of a “Potteries of California” watermark. Actually, if you see one with an A La Modern mark, that’s a good indication we have that item up for sale in the store.

A L Modern Shop - Potteries of California

We currently have a few California pottery items up on the store, including some of the Frank Moreno Ceramics pieces (shown above) that people have often asked about. We’ll be putting more items into the store, including items from Bauer, Jaru, Cleminsons, Heath Ceramics, Howard Pierce and Roselane. We hope that this site will continue to be a resource for collectors, and at the same time we hope to connect those collectors with items that they may be looking for.

Congratulations on your sites - what an amazing amount of work. Just thinking about getting the photography right makes my head spin! I will try to keep up and keep learning - Mike

Thanks Mike - this was sort of a difficult decision to make to actually try and mix selling with talking about California Pottery. I hope that people understand our reasons for doing it, and will continue to come by if they’re seeking information on the different potteries. I think it will work out though. Thanks for reading.
