Cali Crown Trinket Dish

More often than not, I find a piece of California pottery at the thrift that I believe to be a particular type of dish, and later find out that it’s merely part of another larger set, or even an entirely different item. This occurs most frequently with Chip and Dip pieces, but in this case, I thought this Cali Crown item was a planter or candy dish. It turns out that it’s most likely the bottom part of a covered trinket dish. Cali Crown is actually mostly known for making Pixies. I think chances are good that I’ll try to use this as a planter anyhow…

I have a standing “when in doubt, put a plan in it” rule. It typically works out well. Nice piece! It’d be interesting to see what the lid looks like.

Yeesh … that was supposed to be “plant”

@scott - yep, we definitely go by the “plant” rule as well! I have a feeling the top of this trinket dish may not be as nice as the bottom - or at least, not so much my style. It does look like the Denwar gray glaze, but I think the top may have the applied flowers that a lot of these boxes from the 40s-50s have.
