Bennetts Serpentine Dish

The Bennetts Serpentine - Potteries of California

I came across this enormous dish by The Bennetts at the thrift store recently. I might have actually brought it home, but it had an enormous crack running all the way through the dish. I noticed it looked like recent damage which is a shame - most likely it was the thrift workers who did the damage.

This is Serpentine, one of the more common patterns you’ll see from them. One unusual thing is that the backstamp on the item was signed with Caroline Bennett’s full name as opposed to just “The Bennetts”. I’m not sure why she signed with the full name on the item - the serving dish was actually the largest item I’ve seen from them but I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Interestingly, this is the 3rd item I’ve seen from them at this particular thrift store which was located near Glendale. Maybe it’s because they were located in North Hollywood which is just to the west.
