Bauer’s Moonsong

I was fortunate to recognize this Moonsong dip bowl made by Bauer at the thrift the other day. Actually, I didn’t immediately make the connection right away because it wasn’t marked Bauer on the bottom, but I knew it was at least an older piece so I put it in the basket. As I was walking around the store, I was running through the different California potteries in my mind and wondering which one had made it.
It wasn’t until standing in line to pay that I remembered what this shape was. Bauer made the Moonstone line around 1961 and it featured oven-to-table type accesory and service items. It has an Asian influenced look - you can’t really see it on the bowl I found, but the covered casseroles have lid handles that look like temple gates. The color of the bowl I found is a strange sort of pumpkin orange, which is another thing that threw me off at first. I knew Bauer used this pumpkin colored glaze, but I don’t see it around too frequently.
