Bauer Thrift Finds

I’ve had a bit of luck finding Bauer at the thrifts recently. Actually, I’ve seen many more pieces than the ones in the photo above, but most were too damaged to bring home. I did take some pictures with my cellphone of those, so they’ll probably be featured in the next California Pottery Hunting episode.
Of the three pieces shown, only the pink Bauer cup on the left is marked as Bauer. I think that one is La Linda, but I’m not sure. The orange rust-colored cup on the right is a ringware custard cup - I’m not 100% sure, but it seems to match other ones I’ve seen. Unmarked, with an unglazed heat ring or rim on the bottom of the cup.
I think the item in the center is a Fred Johnson #214 smaller style vase, though I’m a little uncertain about that. It measures about 5 1/4 inches tall which seems to be about right with one of the sizes he made. Unmarked on the bottom, and it seems to be handmade as opposed to cast from a mold. The lemon yellow glaze is a little different than the standard darker Chinese yellow that Bauer is more known for. One thing I’m certain of is that this isn’t a new production. The lady I bought it from said it was her great-aunt’s vase and that she lived nearby in Southern California.

I hope I’m not being too pushy here…
I inherited a ceramic piece- in the shape pf a two handled bean pot- that looks like it’s stamped “BAUER Los Angeles, 2″ on the bottom. It looks like a decorative piece… Despite my research I can find nothing that looks anything like it- in Bauer or anywhere else.
Would it be possible to send you some pictures?
Thanks for any advice you can give…Hilary

Hi Hilary - I went ahead and responded to your question on the Flickr group. I think these were usually 3rd party decorations on Bauer items made afterwards.

Hi Bryan-
Thanks so much for your time and response. That explains why it’s been so hard to categorize… Talk about gilding the lily…
Thanks again- Hilary
