I’m mostly including this page on Rembrant Pottery just for reference, since we have no examples of it and have never seen it for sale on Ebay. The few pictures I’ve seen of this pottery in books are really wonderful - mostly vases with colorful glazes reminiscient of early Brayton, Pacific, Catalina and Haldeman.
Jack Chipman has a single listing dedicated to this pottery, and dates it to the 30s and being produced in Laguna Beach. Very interestingly, this pottery may or may not be connected to another California pottery. Bob Maddux, who runs an amazing website devoted to his father’s company, William Maddux Pottery, has noted that his father had a company called “Rembrant Pottery” (note the same different spelling).
This other Rembrant Pottery was active in the 1950s and came about after Bill Maddux sold the original Maddux facility. However, that company turned out things like pixie figurines - completely different than the vases noted above. There seems a possibility that there was a connection between the two, especially since Bill Maddux was active as a teenager in the burgeoning Laguna Beach pottery scene. In any case, we’ll keep this page separate from the Maddux page when that goes up, whether or not it turns out that the two Rembrant companies are related.
Most pieces we’ve seen in photos are either unmarked or have “Rembrant Laguna Beach” as a mark.Note: We've tried to provide as much info as possible on this pottery maker or artist. For further info, you may want to research the items they have on Ebay listed under this name. We've tried to hand tailor the searches below so they will bring up the most accurate results. If there are no results, it will list general California pottery.
