1940s Art Deco Cole Merris California Studio Pottery Figure Of Geisha Girl Tray
Other than the fact that this small pottery operated out of San Gabriel, I’ve been able to find absolutely nothing about the Cole Merris Ceramics company. I think I’ve only seen one of their figurines come up once in auctions. According to the Chipman Encyclopedia, the company made artware up until WWII when the partners Bob Cole and Herb Merris were drafted into service. The Will-George Climes business took up the production of the Cole-Merris line after they left for the war.
I think a lot of the reason that these items are not really identified is because the mark for the company is a monogram type “CM” that most likely goes unrecognized. I don’t know whether or not the company may have also used paper labels to mark their artware and figurines.Note: We've tried to provide as much info as possible on this pottery maker or artist.
